I Test, You Get The Best.
Suppose you want to buy something online. You’ve set your sights on an item. You’re almost sold, but you need more info. You need more than, “it’s a great product, buy it”.
You’re looking for technical data too. You have questions.
“Does this thing fit inside my handbag? Does it come in mauve with yellow spots? Can I carry it with me or is it too heavy? Will it take a selfie? Is it flame retardant? How many cups of coffee can it make? Will it cut through my neighbour’s tree? Will the police arrest me if I use it in public?”
All crucial questions. Who will answer them for you?
That’s where I come in.
Your Personal Research Department
I’m the guy you run to for true, in depth information about products available for sale online.
I spend hours, days, weeks testing merch. Then I write reviews thousands of words long so you can buy, or reject, with confidence.
Take the AeroPress, for instance. It’s an excellent buy. I’ve tested it to the nth degree and it keeps delivering delicious coffee.
Would I have told you it’s a good coffee maker if it sucked?
Not a chance. It would ruin my reputation. It’s not worth trying to make a quick buck; it’s not worth flushing trust down the toilet.
So I’d rather not make a sale, than make a dishonest sale.
Development stage / crowdfunding projects
I cover products in development / crowdfunding stage too. I can’t give a true review of these products, since I can’t buy them. But I can give a valuable opinion.
I no longer feature crowdfunding campaigns, other than those that fail to make sense, or failed to deliver on their promises.
My Red List features failures you should avoid. This category serves as a warning to funders.

Who am I?
My name’s Jansie Blom. I created Rasp And Rivet to help you make more informed choices when you buy online.
I qualified as a toolmaker in 2000.
As a toolmaker I abused lathes and milling machines. Other machines too, but those were my favourite. I built and modified a wide variety of thingamabobs.
In 2002 I took a job as sales rep for Seco Tools. They’re a world-class carbide tooling manufacturer. I sold the tooling I worked with before. (I was a terrible salesman, by the way.)
I love technical things; I love truth; I love writing. That’s why Rasp And Rivet was born.
I monetise Rasp And Rivet in various ways. Visit the disclaimer page for more info.
I treasure your support. It shows you appreciate my hard work.
I send out a newsletter on Monday mornings. It’s a summary of articles written the previous week.
You’ll only appreciate the newsletter if you prefer truth over marketing hype.
